Spa Filter Care
Following water chemistry, the second most important item of maintenance is your filters.
A dirty or clogged filter can be the cause of may problems such as flow or heating issues.
Water cannot move through a clogged or dirty filter and if water is not filtered, contaminants are not being removed. A clogged filter can also put strain on the pump or cause your heater to malfunction. Dirty filters can also cause your spa to shut down unexpectedly.
You should rinse your filters weekly. It's also never a bad idea to rinse your filters after a heavy bather load.
A dirty, damaged or over used filter WILL compromise other parts of your spas system. These repairs can be much more costly than replacing filters.
Keep in mind, the more you use your spa or the warmer the climate, the more you will need to clean your filters.
In addition, to keep your filters working as they should, you need to remove dirt and debris, body oils, residue and bacteria from the filters. Tough grime is impossible to remove with just water. The only way to properly do this is to use a filter cleaner designed to clean cartridge filters.
The cleaner is designed to break down the oil and grime, making it easier to rinse away. It is a good idea to do this cleaning procedure every time you perform your quarterly drain/clean/refill.
An Aqua Comb is also a handy tool that will help you get between the pleats of your filter during cleaning, helping to remove any particles left behind.
No matter how many times you clean your filters, they need to be changed YEARLY for optimum performance. Your filter is essential to your spa running properly. You will want to change your filters if they show any signs of wear or damage or if there is a lack of water pressure flowing through them.
Keeping your filters clean and in good condition will keep your spa running and ensure many years of enjoyment!
