How to Clean Your Hot Tub Cover

Your cover will last a long time if you treat it right. This includes cleaning and maintaining it regularly. Also, you will be able to limit sun damage, prevent mold, and avoid chemical damage by heeding these tips.

Every day, brush debris off the cover, including leaves, sticks, bugs, and snow. Use a simple push broom but don't use anything with sharp edges that could damage the vinyl.

Do a deep cleaning every other week to keep mold at bay.

  1. Remove the cover and lay it flat on the ground. Using a non-abrasive surface, wipe or rinse it clean. Don't use cleaners with alcohol, detergent, oil or silicone in them.
  2. Wipe the bottom of the cover with vinegar or bleach and water.
  3. Apply vinyl protectant or conditioner to protect against UV rays that can lead to fading and cracking.
  4. Scrub off mold and mildew, then treat with a vinegar or bleach solution.
  5. Use a disinfectant on mildew on the underside of the cover.
  6. Check for and repair damage regularly. Patch holes with a vinyl repair kit.
  7. Dry out your cover occasionally.
  8. Test and balance your water weekly to avoid bacteria growth.
