All About Automatic Pool Cleaners
Automatic Pool Cleaners are a great investment that will save you money and time. They range widely in price, from $99 to more than $3,000. How do you know which one to get for your pool?
You’re basically paying for cleaning horsepower. The bigger and faster the unit, the higher your price tag will be. If you have a small pool, get a smaller and less expensive cleaner. If you have a big pool, get a larger more powerful vacuum.
These are the three basic types:
Suction Cleaners – [$99 – $500] These cleaners, powered by your primary pool pump, move around the pool sucking dirt from the floor and walls. The biggest benefit is cost and the biggest drawback is that they are sluggish and better for smaller pools. The dirt that is picked up will be deposited into the filter. These cleaners are fairly dependable but certain parts may have to be replaced frequently due to wear.
Pressure Cleaners – [$700 – 1300] These self-propelled units clean your pool via the existing pool pump as well as a booster pump that supplies it with additional energy. This combo unit is much more expensive than suction cleaners but you will enjoy a much more powerful cleaner.
They have more moving parts and can be temperamental, but because they have a lot of cleaning power, they are great for medium to large size pools. They feature their own filtering device that has to be cleaned after every use.
Robots – [$650 – $1800] These self-contained cleaners require no outside energy source. They have their own electric pump and can be plugged into an electrical outlet and placed in your pool. These fast units are designed to clean large residential pools. They are very pricey but they do the best job. You can also get an optional remote to go with your robot.
